Classification of coated abrasive binders
The binder acts as a bonding abrasive and a substrate to impart a certain shape and strength to the abrasive article. The binder in the coated abrasive is generally composed of a substrate treating agent, a primer, a size, and the like.

The role of the substrate treatment agent is mainly to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the substrate, to ensure good quality of the rubberized sand and to give the product good performance. According to the different application requirements of the product, the substrate treatment is not water resistant and water resistant, and the substrate treatment agent should be compatible.
The primer is a coating that bonds the abrasive to the substrate to bond and fix the abrasive.
The compounding glue is coated with a layer of adhesive on the fixed abrasive grains to surround the abrasive to further strengthen the bonding strength between the abrasive grains and the substrate, so as to ensure that the abrasive grains can withstand the grinding force during the grinding process. The effect of pressure and impact is not easy to fall off.
The main factor affecting the bond strength of coated abrasives is the type and amount of binder.
The binders used in the application of abrasives mainly include: animal glue, synthetic resin and the like. Examples of skin glue, urea resin, phenolic resin, epoxy resin, alkyd resin and the like.

Animal glue: good bonding performance, easy to use, but not water resistant, easy to get wet.
Urea-formaldehyde resin: simple to manufacture, low in cost, good in adhesion, moisture and mildew resistance than animal glue.
Phenolic resin: high bonding strength, good water resistance, acid resistance and weather resistance, especially the use of water-soluble phenolic resin, making it one of the most important binders in the coated abrasive industry.
Epoxy resin, alkyd resin: good bonding performance, good water resistance, but the use of organic solvents, more than the production of water-resistant sandpaper.
